Holmes is director of community health, outreach and partnerships for Lawrence & Memorial Hospital. She also serves as board member of the Hispanic Alliance of Southeastern Connecticut Treasure Chest. She previously served as the director of development for Summer Music Inc., as co-chair of the Connecticut Coalition for Choice and as executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice America Inc.

She holds a master's degree in social work.
